Matthew started his practice of Yoga by joining a meditation group near his home in Northern New Jersey. After struggling with issues in his personal life, this Yogic meditation practice was the first thing that filled a void and provided stability and healing. It was through this practice that Matthew learned about Raja Yoga (The Royal Yoga) and the 8 limbed path that Patanjali describes in the Yoga Sutras. After almost three years of steady meditation practice, Matthew asked one of the monks leading a retreat how he might improve his ability to sit for long periods of time in meditation. The monk's sage reply was, "Have you tried exercise?" It was from this moment that Matthew's Hatha Yoga practice was born. He completed his 200hr teacher training in 2017 and is now able to sit a little longer in meditation every day. Matthew looks forward to sharing his practice and being inspired by and learning from those who come to his classes at YAM!
